DDM Countryside Management Ltd was founded by Daniel Newman, who has managed deer for over 30 years. What began as a gamekeeper’s interest became a career spent on estates across the UK.
Daniel has passed those skills and techniques on to others, which has allowed him to build a team of like-minded professional deer and squirrel managers. We pride ourselves on the ability to manage deer properly: sustainably, safely and with respect for the animal and the land.
Safe, humane and sustainable culling by qualified stalkers, with carcasses prepared for the food chain.
Written plans built around your objectives, the species present and the pressure on the ground.
Site-specific assessments covering public access, neighbouring land, safe shooting and lone working.
Objective monitoring of browsing and fraying damage, so cull targets are set on evidence.
Planning, implementation and record collection for the WS1 scheme, ready for inspection.
Specialist handling of park herds, balancing welfare, visitors and herd structure.
Grey squirrel control as part of the WS3 scheme, protecting young and broadleaf woodland.
Advice, plans and assessments anywhere in the country, wherever the ground needs a second opinion.
DDM is proud to work for clients with very different priorities, from commercial forestry and high-level shoots through to universities, arboretums, farms and private individuals.

High-level shoots where deer and squirrels must be managed alongside the sporting calendar.

Protecting natural regeneration, new planting and broadleaf timber value.

Park herds and specimen trees, where welfare, visitors and herd structure all have to be balanced.

Arable and livestock farms where deer affect crop yields and grazing.

Managed access, clear records and safe working around staff, students and the public.
